Hello everyone,
I am new here and hope that someone can share some helpful advice on my topic. We want to connect two floors by installing a staircase. The resulting opening would be along an interior wall and would likely measure about 1 by 2 meters (3 by 6.5 feet). The underfloor heating was probably damaged.

Can anyone tell me how the structural stability behaves with these dimensions, or how extensive the "repair" of the underfloor heating might be? Is it necessary to redo the entire room or only the affected area? If anyone has done this before and knows the approximate costs, I would be very grateful.

Thanks for your help

This seems like a major undertaking. It’s hard to say whether it’s feasible from a structural engineering perspective, but I could imagine it being possible. However, you will definitely need to consult a structural engineer.

I think the underfloor heating could become expensive, though. It runs in parallel serpentine loops. Whether the breaks can somehow be bridged is a mystery to me. If there is no solution for that, it would mean replacing the entire underfloor heating system.

Best regards and have a great weekend!
