Hi everyone,

I am looking for a leaf filter/basket or similar for a downpipe (also DIY solutions are fine, as long as they work) that is quick and easy to clean or replace. It should not require any changes or cutting to the existing pipe (there are plenty of such solutions available on Amazon, for example). My downpipe has a maintenance opening, and I would like to manage or install the filter through that.

Do you have any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks

I think you will have to face the consequences sooner or later. I would consider replacing part of the downpipe with a corresponding debris trap section. Maybe you could also connect a rain barrel to it at the same time.

As mentioned before, you should find a suitable dirt trap or alternatively a leaf separator – however, installing it will require modifications to the downpipe.

Ok, thanks, I thought I could avoid that.
Thank you very much for the suggestions.

You can create a makeshift solution from hexagonal wire mesh, also known as chicken wire, just before the last opening you can reach.

This helps on my balcony against mice that try to come up and leaves that fall down into the drain.

Will that hold? Do you have a picture?

Where and how does the pipe end? Normally, it should go into a drainage pit, which usually has a sieve.
