Schwedenfan129 Jul 2018 14:56Hello,
I am considering having parquet flooring installed in my condominium, treated using an old Scandinavian method. The parquet is brushed and soap-finished, which is said to make it very low-maintenance and durable.
Since I have underfloor heating, only oak parquet is suitable for me.
Does anyone have experience with brushed and soap-finished oak parquet? Would you recommend it? Are there any negative experiences? What should I be aware of?
I appreciate any helpful answers.
Thank you!

garfunkel6 Aug 2018 20:34This seems to be a rather uncommon method here. Why not use traditional oiling for the floor? I have oiled oak flooring throughout my apartment, and it’s already a pleasure to walk on barefoot. Unfortunately, I can’t comment on how it works with soap, as I only know of using soap for cleaning purposes.

Schwedenfan16 Aug 2018 20:40Thank you for the response. According to my parquet expert, the soap-finished option (without oiling or waxing) is preferable to the others. What sounded particularly good to me is that it is very low maintenance. However, it is also expensive. I would like to hear a few more opinions on whether it really is worth it...
Teak decks on ships are maintained in a way that cleans them. The advantages are that they are non-slip and develop a beautiful silvery patina; the disadvantage is that they do not repel dirt at all, so only sock-only walking is acceptable inside the house. Parquet flooring needs to be sealed. Then it will last as well.
