ᐅ Room Thermostat Uponor T-35 versus "Smart Home Thermostat"

Dear community,

I have a question regarding my room thermostat, which I would like to replace with a "smart version" (controllable via an app).

Currently, I have the Uponor T-35 as my room thermostat (actually three of them – living room, bedroom, bathroom). I would like to replace it, at least the one in the living room, with a (smart) thermostat, for example, an Ecobee thermostat.

Since I have no knowledge of this myself (I am a lawyer 😉), I obviously won’t attempt the replacement on my own. I only want to find out whether the replacement is possible and what I would need for it. In other words: I would order the necessary parts and then have an expert install them.

Could someone please briefly explain if the replacement is possible and ideally name the required components?

Many thanks in advance!

Best regards from Vienna
Clemens

PS: If this topic fits better in the “Heating / Climate” forum, I apologize!

What do you need these for, an old building? Normally, you only have to swap two wires, or am I misunderstanding something?

In new buildings, these things are useless and always non-functional anyway.

Thanks for your reply. No, it’s a new build. As far as I can see, it’s not that simple in my case because, as I understand it, this is a "two-wire thermostat." From what I understand, the circuit only closes (and activates the valve) when the bimetal closes the circuit.

With underfloor heating, the temperature is usually not adjusted frequently because it responds slowly. For that reason, in my opinion, a smart control system doesn’t make much sense.

Well, in the long term, the plan is to also get an air conditioning system. With the smart thermostat mentioned above, I could control both heating and cooling through one thermostat. As for adjusting the temperature: my girlfriend thinks differently and likes to turn it up occasionally—even though I agree with you, it does take a while to have an effect 😀

Well, that’s usually not how it works the way you expect... especially not with the so-called “smart thermostats,” meaning not without an overall system and the appropriate equipment.

This is a complete failure.
