ᐅ Cladding for Roof Overhang: Wood or Plastic Panels?

Are there any experiences or recommendations regarding the cladding of the roof overhang, which is 50cm (20 inches) wide? Wood or plastic panels?

At first glance, I like wood (I have two larch facades on my own house).
But here: No roof overhang!? What’s the point of that?
Especially at the front, by the balcony. Then the tenants of the apartments ended up fixing the missing wind protection in various makeshift ways. It looks "awkward."
To the side as a "structural" protection...
Roof made of transparent PVC corrugated sheets? That’s risky.
Only an "architect" could have come up with that.
Back to the topic: Our home builder (who is going to build our solid wood house) strongly recommends plastic cladding.
No more yellowing and such. Reason: Painting under the gable at the top is hardly possible.
