ᐅ Retractable Kitchen Exhaust Hood: Any Experiences?

Dear Homeowners,

I have purchased a condominium and am considering installing a retractable range hood in the kitchen. I simply don’t like the standard range hoods; in my opinion, they are too large and block the entire view, which is why I am leaning towards a retractable option.

However, the question is whether these are effective? Does anyone have experience with retractable range hoods? What are the advantages and disadvantages compared to standard range hoods?

Thank you very much for your many responses.

Hi,
I don’t have personal experience, but I have seen something like this in a holiday apartment. This extractor hood was installed behind the kitchen island. Everything worked well, and the landlord was also very pleased.
Best regards

Hi, is there any photo or something similar of it? Because that sounds very interesting 🙂 I also want to make some changes, and a retractable kitchen extractor would be a great solution, as that box in the kitchen really bothers me 🙂

Hello,
I don’t own this either, but my sister does. However, she now lives several kilometers (miles) away from me, so I can’t provide a picture at the moment.

My sister has a freestanding kitchen island that is about 3 meters (10 feet) long. She now has a retractable downdraft extractor fan. In my opinion, it’s a gimmick, and she can no longer cook from all sides.
Best regards.

I believe that a ceiling-mounted range hood offers several useful functions. It captures rising steam and grease effectively. Why would I need a kitchen island if I can't work on all sides, especially when multiple people are cooking together?
