I have purchased a condominium and am considering installing a retractable range hood in the kitchen. I simply don’t like the standard range hoods; in my opinion, they are too large and block the entire view, which is why I am leaning towards a retractable option.
However, the question is whether these are effective? Does anyone have experience with retractable range hoods? What are the advantages and disadvantages compared to standard range hoods?
Thank you very much for your many responses.

A retractable downdraft extractor requires a different duct layout compared to hoods mounted on the ceiling or otherwise above the cooktop—I am referring here to the types that retract into the countertop or base cabinet. However, there are also hoods that can be recessed into upper cabinets or the ceiling... which type did you have in mind?

I have been thinking about a model that can be recessed behind the cooktops, so it is not elevated but sits directly on the cooktop.
Are these effective, especially regarding ventilation? What are the advantages and disadvantages?
Thank you very much for your response.

From a technical perspective, the ducting for retractable exhaust hoods is somewhat more complicated because the relatively thick ducts run inside the cabinet or floor area and need to be connected to an existing exhaust shaft. In the case of retrofitting, the connection opening is usually not located near the floor.

does anyone here use a retractable system like this? Experience reports would be interesting, as I only know them from reading and viewing so far.
