Has anyone had experience with ceramic repair kits (or whatever they are called) for ceramic sinks? Can you recommend one that is not too expensive and can cover small chips and/or possibly a crack?

I’m asking regarding a rental apartment (yes, here in this forum! :-)) shortly before moving out. The liability insurance would even cover the deposit... but if it can be repaired effectively, that would be best for everyone involved.

To me, that is fraudulent misrepresentation. What value are we talking about for a washbasin in a rental apartment?

First: a photo of the situation
Second: chips (depending on their size) are quite common signs of wear and tear and are not your responsibility to repair. The landlord collects rent and cannot use the deposit for that accordingly.

Is a crack in the washbasin a common sign of wear? No!
Chips or surface damage are also not typical signs of wear for sanitary ceramics.

In that case, the washbasin must be replaced at the tenant’s expense or covered by their insurance.

Limescale or rust stains are more typical signs of wear. Mechanical damage, for example caused by glass cream jars falling, is the tenant’s responsibility.

A washbasin like this in a “standard” rental apartment costs very little. First, ask how much it would cost you. Repairing it seems more like a hassle and also costs money. Just replace it and be done.

I once tried something like this in our bathroom many years ago. Conclusion: don’t do it.

- You NEVER get the exact color match.
- The base always shows through.

Although I was able to hide a small chip this way, you can still see the color difference on close inspection...
