Hello

we have now installed the IKEA kitchen, but I am now uncertain about the Utdrag range hood.
When we were at the IKEA store, the staff member reviewed our plan and said it would be fine if the appliance hangs less than the specified minimum height of 50 cm (20 inches) above the cooktop. Is that correct?
I wish I had chosen the Underverk or whatever it is called. The staff member said that the Utdrag is also okay....

I wouldn’t worry too much about the 2 cm (1 inch) difference. For example, Bosch specifies a minimum distance of 43 cm (17 inches) for similar range hoods. In any case, flambéing should never be done under a flat canopy hood. For fire safety, it is also important to clean the grease filters regularly.
The small distance to the ceiling is not a problem as long as the range hood works effectively.

But shouldn't there be enough space above the cabinet for air circulation?

The air just needs to be able to exit. If the gap is too small, backpressure can occur, especially with a high airflow volume. This also causes turbulence, which can reduce efficiency and increase noise.
My range hood came with an exhaust grille that redirects the air slightly forward.
The main thing is whether you are satisfied with the performance of your range hood.

We were just at the store and made a complaint.
The employee said that you should have pointed out to us that the gap at the top is really too small and there is a risk of mold! We will be informed on Wednesday about what will be done.
I’m curious to see if anything will happen!

And you shouldn’t flambé under a flat canopy hood anyway.

Of course, naturally not. 😉 But who knows what might happen or be overlooked when you’re caught up in the heat of cooking.
