Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding French balconies. They were just installed at our new build. I had assumed they would be anchored into the facade, but they have now been screwed onto the window frames. Is this considered proper practice (especially for the nice new windows)?

Thank you very much for your advice!

Please show a photo! Off the top of my head, I would say this is not professionally done, but I cannot back this up with any standard or regulation—just a gut feeling.

It depends.
There are models that are mounted in the reveals, but there are also some that are screwed into the frame.
With external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS), this is probably the simplest solution.
What did you order?

You actually asked this yesterday in an older thread https://www.hausbau-forum.de/threads/franzoesische-balkone.9764/page-4#post-492092.
No, it’s not the best or ultimate solution – but:
1. it’s better than anchoring it in the insulation layer, and
2. it’s not the window installer’s task to carry out the work elsewhere.
Whoever left this job to the window installer also made the mistake of choosing this less attractive method.
