Hello everyone,

we have built a new house and moved in this January. Since then, I have noticed the following issue:

We have a Vaillant gas heating system with solar thermal and underfloor heating.

Behind the main water pipe entering the house and the water meter, we have a GUBI-E water conditioner with a pressure gauge. Normally, the device shows a water pressure of about 4 bar (58 psi). However, it has happened several times now that the pressure gauge is at its maximum and shows a water pressure of 10 bar (145 psi). I am attaching a photo.

The pressure in the pipe slowly builds up while the heating system is producing hot water. As soon as a tap is opened, there is a knocking sound in the pipe, and the gauge drops back to around 4 bar (58 psi).

The plumbing company has already replaced a pressure relief valve, which is supposed to release at 6 bar (87 psi), but without success.

I cannot imagine that this behavior is normal or good for the longevity of the pipes.

I hope one of the experts here can advise me whether this is normal or what might be causing it.

Thank you!

Hello,

not good at all... some distant acquaintances had their water pipe break due to a similar issue while they were on vacation. The resulting water damage made the house completely uninhabitable for 6 months, with all floors including the screed having to be removed, and so on. The damage was clearly in the six-figure range.

For them, this exact pressure relief valve had been installed the wrong way around, so it couldn’t trigger.

Definitely stay on top of this!

Best regards,

Andreas

Hello

There is no visible pressure relief valve there.
It is a filter with a pressure reducer.

The cause of the pressure increase in the cold water system is likely a faulty or clogged safety group of the water heater.
When heating the water, the pressure in the tank usually rises up to 10 bar (145 psi).
A functioning safety group normally prevents water from flowing back into the cold water line.

Hello

This component is installed on the heating system, and according to the plumbing company, it is supposed to prevent overpressure. However, this part has already been replaced, and the problem persists.
