cobra19826 Aug 2017 10:12I am currently looking for a house and have come across some properties that still have night storage heaters, for example.
My question is, roughly how much would it cost to convert a house completely to gas, and how or from where would such a connection be established?
An approximate cost would be enough for me to estimate what the house would cost with this conversion.

Forget it. Installing a gas boiler and laying the connection is done in no time. And then? The boiler heats water, which flows through radiators or underfloor heating and thus provides heat. How do you plan to install the water pipes to supply every room without having to break open everything? That would be way too expensive. An electric storage heater is economically sensible and should not be replaced. Karsten

It depends on the price, as always.
The gas connection needs to be installed. You can ask the utility provider for the price.
Then there’s the gas boiler. The cost generally ranges between 7,000 and 12,000 euros, depending on where you live and what you choose (including installation).
Next are the hot water pipes. I can’t estimate those costs without knowing the specific conditions.
The pipes for the new radiators and the radiators themselves also need to be planned.
You could also consider installing a wall heating system or underfloor heating.
How much work can you do yourself?
My rough estimate is between 20,000 and 30,000 euros all in.

cobra19827 Aug 2017 08:41I could easily contribute around 30,000 on my own. The semi-detached house I am planning to visit costs about €190,000. The plot is 420 sqm (4,520 sq ft) and the living area is 120 sqm (1,290 sq ft) in a quiet location. Of course, I still need to check if the windows and doors are in good condition. I am mainly concerned about the gas heating to see if the price will be expensive or if it’s worth it. I could do some of the work myself.
So, what can be helpful after consultation are, for example, the chipping works. You go through everything with the heating engineer, they indicate the routing, and you chip out all the necessary areas on the weekend. The floor plan is also important. If the rooms are well arranged, you won’t need much piping.
But as mentioned, estimating from a distance is extremely difficult. Therefore, plan for around €30,000.
Overall, you will need a concept.
