Hello,
I have a question. Last year, we bought a semi-detached house, a prefabricated wooden house built in 2000. The gable of the roof, in particular, has already been exposed to quite a bit; the paint is almost completely gone, and you can see gray-black streaks.

Is this a problem? The beams supporting the gable show small cracks with black edges.

Is the structural strength of the wood still guaranteed without weather protection, or should I be concerned now?

What should be considered when repainting with weather-resistant paint?

How much does it typically cost to cover both gables? Are there any estimates?
I don’t know the wood type; it could be pine or larch.

Yes, the other side looks much worse; the paint has already peeled off completely there. We have had the house since August last year.

I would like to cover it with some kind of metal paneling.

What do you mean by not good? What kind of costs would we be looking at?

I mean, just getting a ladder and painting it isn’t really an option for me, especially given the height—I’m not very confident with that.

That is usually done by a painting company. The metal sheet is not free either.

Yes, I understand that. But what if the wood is actually damaged? In the worst case, it would need to be replaced.

These purlins on the weather-exposed side are already showing black spots. What would a complete renovation cost?

I have now also taken photos from the other side. I would appreciate it if you could tell me what kind of costs we might expect.

As mentioned, no one has ever maintained this area.

Estimated 5000, net. Discuss it with a painter.

But shouldn’t the carpenter come for that? Because of the black color, it looks like there might already be some rot.
