abe2912Hello everyone,
I registered here to learn more about my planned construction project. I also have a specific question.
I want to build (have built) a prefabricated house. I prefer a particular company. Unfortunately, the nearest building consultant/sales representative is a full 300 meters (about 186 miles) away.
My question is whether you have experience with how important personal, face-to-face contact with the consultant is when planning your house. Specifically, when it comes to changes in the layout or relocating windows/doors after the general construction plan has been approved. Did you have to meet with your consultant often? Can much be handled by email or phone?
I assume many details are clarified only during the interior selections phase, right?
Thanks in advance for your answers.
Best regards

We met three times, and the architect was present for two of those meetings. After that, everything was handled via email, mainly because I worked on the floor plan myself and we discussed any changes briefly. It’s certainly not a big problem, but being close is definitely better, especially later during construction, when the architect provides follow-up support and may want to visit the site.
Our experience was similar to Uwe82’s. We talked with the sales representative two or three times to discuss the scope of construction work, the individual services, the process, the budget, and so on.
However, once the detailed house planning started, the architect took over, followed by the individual trades. After that, we didn’t hear much from the sales representative, as they usually referred questions during the construction process to the relevant trades or the site manager.
That said, I have to add that we had a dedicated sales representative who strongly supported us. Even when they had to pass concerns on to specialized departments, they always followed up. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case.

We had three meetings with the seller – at our home and at the model home center, where he presented his company. Afterwards, the architect came; the seller attended two out of three meetings there. Then we had a joint visit with the seller to the options selection center. Following that was the signing (at our home), and then the options selection again, this time with the seller and employees of the homebuilding company.
I wouldn’t want to invest such a large amount of money without personal contact.
