ᐅ Prefabricated house built / drywall finishing done yourself? Costs?

amelie74We are building a semi-detached house with a prefabricated house company.
The floors, doors, and painting work are to be done as self-performed tasks.
How much should we expect to pay for plastering work (to prepare for subsequent painting or wallpapering)?
I would be very grateful for any answers.

I would think about that very carefully.
We had two professionals who worked like champions, applying plaster for 5 days straight, 8-10 hours a day... And I believe working overhead is tough.
Then you need:
Either ladders you can stand on, or a rolling scaffold.
Sanding poles or drywall sanders with dust extraction to capture the dust while sanding.
And definitely about 2 weeks full-time just for plastering.
After sanding to a Q2 finish, which was almost a Q3 at the end, we spent nearly 2 more weeks priming, wallpapering, and painting the house.
We had about 1200 meters (3937 feet) of wallpaper, just under 600 square meters (6458 square feet) of surface area... and 10 buckets of paint, each 15 kilograms (33 pounds).
To answer your question on costs: You’ll need sanding equipment, which costs around €500, plus protective masks, plaster (which should be quite inexpensive), and either ladders or rolling scaffolds (around €300).
The main factors will be the physical effort and the time required.

At first, we planned to do the plastering and smoothing ourselves, but then we changed our minds and hired an excellent plasterer. The three workers spent almost 10 days just smoothing and sanding, and afterwards they primed and plastered the entire area. We would never have been able to achieve that quality in that timeframe!
The cost for smoothing, sanding, and plastering depends entirely on the amount of wall surface and the level of difficulty (many corners, sloped ceilings, hard-to-reach areas, unevenness, etc.). So it’s hard to give a general estimate.

Puttying was part of our drywall work. Please check your construction scope description to see where it is categorized for you.
We had Q2, ready for wallpaper! We wanted to skip wallpaper and of course reapplied putty and sanded everything. We definitely spent about a week on that.
We had a large sloped ceiling puttied to Q4 level. It cost us approximately 400 Euros.

Oh dear... I had almost expected that. My husband was too optimistic about doing the work ourselves. Unfortunately, our building specification doesn’t mention anything about filling or plastering. Therefore, we will have to manage it ourselves or find a company to take care of it.
