Does it make sense?

Not really. It’s either all or nothing.

Is that a disadvantage?

No, it just needs to be calculated, and the device selected or sized accordingly.

On which side of the house exterior wall are the supply and exhaust vents installed?

That depends on the lunar phase. 😀 Just kidding. Since we usually have westerly winds here in Central Europe, it makes sense to place the fresh air intake on the west side and the exhaust vent on the north, south, or east side. Or the other way around: exhaust on the east and fresh air intake on the north, south, or west side. Apparently, there are also combination covers that allow both vents on the same wall without causing problems.

Our controlled residential ventilation system is located in the basement, with the supply and exhaust air outlet on the upper floor. A duct shaft is required for the pipes, which you will need anyway for the ventilation ducts coming down from the ceiling on the ground floor and upper floor.

And why? According to Selfio, it doesn’t matter...

I think not connecting the basement is nonsense… do you really want to keep going down there to ventilate manually all the time? Is the basement within the thermal envelope? If so, it should be connected.

air and temperature exchange. Additionally, the system is normally set to a slight positive pressure. However, this is not possible if the positive pressure is immediately equalized.

Okay. Won't I have a problem with condensation at that point? The basement is not heated!
