Hello,

Our house is currently under construction, and so far we are very satisfied. However, I would like to gather some additional opinions regarding the installation of the water pipes in our house.

The pipes between the ground floor and the first floor run inside U-channels that were built into the exterior wall at the corresponding location. The wall structure consists of 24 cm (9.5 inches) Röben Poroton T14 blocks + 10 cm (4 inches) external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS) + thermal insulation plaster.

What insulation is required and/or recommended for the pipes? The cold and hot water pipes have an insulating jacket, and on the interior side there is a layer of mineral wool insulation. My feeling is that an additional insulation layer towards the outside surface of the wall might be useful, or even necessary. On the other hand, the ETICS and the existing insulation within the U-channel might already provide sufficient protection.

Another question relates to the solar water heating system. The pipes leading to it are planned to run inside the U-channel and then directly beneath the rafters up to the collectors. The attic (truss roof structure) is not insulated. How should these pipes be protected?

I would appreciate any advice or suggestions.

Regards,
Uwe
