Hello,
I need some information about who is responsible for filling and smoothing the joints in ceiling and wall areas.
Many homebuilding companies exclude painting work from their contracts. This raises the question for me whether the joints of the precast concrete ceiling fall under the painter’s scope or if the drywall contractor is responsible.
I know people for whom this has been handled differently. In one example, the drywall contractor did the filling and smoothing. After installing the drywall panels on the upper floor and around the toilet frames, they also filled and smoothed the holes (which were in the concrete ceiling to allow better moisture flow) and the joints.
I ask because I want to make sure that mesh tape is applied in the seams.
Thank you in advance for your help.

If this is not contractually specified, you should ask the site manager this question. Generally, closing openings is not part of the painter’s scope of work. Although painters do perform full-surface filling of walls and ceilings, this only applies when it is necessary for surface preparation for subsequent tasks and is also indicated or described accordingly in the scope of work.

What does the product datasheet of your preferred supplier say about ceiling finishing?
Kind regards
