Does anyone have experience with parquet flooring in a children’s room? I would like to have a high-quality lacquered oak engineered parquet floor installed (glued down because of underfloor heating). Or will such a floor no longer look good after a few years?

We installed cork click-lock parquet flooring in the bedrooms and children’s rooms. Nowadays, it comes in really clever patterns and designs. Cork has the advantage of being a soft and warm surface. It is said to work with underfloor heating, but you should definitely consult a specialist about that.

Thank you for the tips! We’re not really keen on the look of cork, so it will probably be parquet after all. The only question left is whether multi-layer lacquered parquet is more durable in a children’s room compared to oiled parquet. Do any of you have experience with this?

Cork flooring on underfloor heating is not very advisable. Cork provides good insulation, which means it takes longer for the heat to pass through.

Currently, we have parquet flooring in the children’s room (rental apartment). It still looks good – unlike the living room.
However, my child and stepchildren don’t throw building blocks around; they play normally with their toys in the room.

I would like to revisit the topic of parquet flooring, as it’s still quite recent.
We are planning a multi-purpose room on the ground floor (possibly a bedroom in the future) for exercise, guests, and a desk area.
We have never really dealt with parquet flooring before and have no personal experience with it.
Now, we have received a sample of an oiled two-layer bamboo parquet.
We like the texture; the color could be a bit darker, but who knows, maybe such a mid-tone (honey-colored) works better for about 14 sq m (150 sq ft).

Now to my questions:
Oiled: how does it hold up to moisture, for example, damp feet during yoga?
Color: can oil darken the tone? That is, are there hard oils with color pigments?
Cleaning: is damp mopping suitable?
Chair casters: how does open-pored parquet react?

The underside of the carrier layer (5 mm (0.2 inches)) has grooves of about 2 mm (0.08 inches) every 3 cm (1.2 inches). The parquet is supposed to be ideal for underfloor heating (glued installation). How do these grooves affect that? Wouldn’t they create air pockets during gluing? (We want to glue/install in elastic layer (EL)).

Thank you very much for your answers… if my questions are not recognized in the old thread, I will probably copy them into a new one, so don’t be surprised.

That definitely makes a difference, and oak is relatively hard, so you won’t have problems with dents from furniture, etc. A good finish lasts for years, and in case of heavy wear, you can always sand the floor down and refinish it. Parquet is still the best option!!!
