Hello everyone,

we were just asked what type of window sills we want.
Options: white aluminum or with a facing layer made of brick slips

About the house: 14 windows, white uPVC windows

What would you suggest? Pros and cons?

Oh, thanks. Do you use any special masonry anchors?

I will take a photo for you this evening. I’m not sure if they are special, but they are anchors in the masonry.

As far as I know, special approved anchors must be used when there is more than 15cm (6 inches) of spacing between the wythes. That is why we have only 14cm (5.5 inches) plus a 1cm (0.4 inch) finger gap.

I know anchors are generally common with cavity walls, but this might vary depending on the support, and how strictly they are required.

If you meant the fixation of the glass wool insulation: there will probably be disc anchors (insulation fixings), since it’s difficult to glue it.

Just remeasured carefully: 16cm (6 inches) of glass wool, 2cm (0.8 inches) of air gap, then the facing bricks.

According to the DIN standard, anchors are always required unless other connection devices are in place, correct. This applies regardless of the distance between the layers. However, for distances over 15cm (6 inches), special anchors with an official building approval for the specific application are mandatory. Wire anchors are not allowed. I’m not exactly sure, as I have only seen the version used with 14cm (5.5 inches) insulation and 1cm (0.4 inches) air gap so far.
