ᐅ Noise disturbance caused by birds on the chimney

Dear forum members, I have a problem that is driving me crazy.
I have a chimney in my house (first occupied in 2017) because I would like to install a wood stove in my living area at some point. Currently, I don’t have the financial means for it, and yes, I know that a wood stove in a new house doesn’t make much sense, but I would still like to have one eventually.

Now birds have discovered the chimney as a playground. At first, it was crows, and now wagtails are active there from sunrise to sunset, pecking, knocking, and hammering away. On the ground floor, the noises sound muffled and usually don’t bother me much because I’m often busy. But on the upper floor, the chimney runs through the children’s room where my 7-month-old son and I sleep. There, the sounds are extremely loud and make it hard for my child to fall asleep. If he sleeps longer, I wake up because of the birds. When I open the attic hatch, the birds fly away and stay gone for about an hour, then they come back again.
I am attaching a picture to show the chimney (and the birds’ droppings).

Does anyone have any idea how I can get rid of the birds? I’m really grateful for any advice!

I don’t understand the idea with the chicken wire. Won’t they just sit on that too? Spikes would be the best option.
Hello Tassimat You are absolutely right. This bird deterrent is necessary. But you can’t attach it to the existing cover. Gluing it on is possible, but it won’t hold for long. So the deterrents will be placed on the cage. Steven

There is no better base than metal to fasten pigeon spikes with rivets!

Hello Alessandro

would you use blind rivets there?
And soon rust would have enlarged the holes.

There are screws for metal roofing that seal themselves, so you can simply put a nail strip over them and that’s it.

Don’t shout so loudly!

It could also be that they are attacking their own reflection.
