Dear forum members, I have a problem that is driving me crazy.
I have a chimney in my house (first occupied in 2017) because I would like to install a wood stove in my living area at some point. Currently, I don’t have the financial means for it, and yes, I know that a wood stove in a new house doesn’t make much sense, but I would still like to have one eventually.

Now birds have discovered the chimney as a playground. At first, it was crows, and now wagtails are active there from sunrise to sunset, pecking, knocking, and hammering away. On the ground floor, the noises sound muffled and usually don’t bother me much because I’m often busy. But on the upper floor, the chimney runs through the children’s room where my 7-month-old son and I sleep. There, the sounds are extremely loud and make it hard for my child to fall asleep. If he sleeps longer, I wake up because of the birds. When I open the attic hatch, the birds fly away and stay gone for about an hour, then they come back again.
I am attaching a picture to show the chimney (and the birds’ droppings).

Does anyone have any idea how I can get rid of the birds? I’m really grateful for any advice!

Search on Google using the keywords: "Hausgarten" and "bird protection". This should lead you to an article with many suggestions and tips.

Hello

At the building center, there are square aluminum tubes with matching connectors. You can build a "!cage" from them, wrap it with rabbit wire mesh, and place it on top. Possibly secure it somehow to the chimney so it doesn't blow away. That should be enough.

Just rivet a few bird spikes on, and the problem is solved.

I don’t understand the idea of using chicken wire. Won’t they just sit on that as well?

Spikes would be the best option.
