Hello Forum,
I am new here and hope you can help.
It’s about our new build project, which is scheduled to start in April.
The goal is to build a KfW 55 house (solid construction). We originally planned to do this without a ventilation system.
However, we keep reading here and there that a ventilation system is mandatory for the KfW 55 certification.
Additionally, today the local utility company informed me that the 2016 Energy Saving Ordinance requires automatic ventilation. The builder, on the other hand, insists it is not necessarily required.
Can you help clarify this?
1. Is it really mandatory?
2. Can you manage well without it, or is it better to invest the money in a ventilation system?
I look forward to your advice.
Thank you very much.

Implementing a Smart Home System. What does a smart home have to do with resistance to mechanical ventilation with heat recovery?A KfW 55 or better standard without mechanical ventilation is not really comfortable.
Then regular ventilation, whether you are home or not, is mandatory.
Of course, something like this would be sufficient for RegelAir; but why would I want to build a house that is as airtight as possible only to let the heat simply escape? @Nordlys: That seems like saving money in the wrong place, right?
So, for comfort reasons, it makes sense to consider mechanical ventilation with heat recovery.
You can think about whether a central or decentralized system is better.
But you also don’t have to ventilate regularly while on vacation.
Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery is only mandatory starting at KfW 40 Plus.

We are also concerned about possible mold growth in the supply ducts These concerns are completely unfounded; there is no basis for them. A house with a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery is not only more comfortable but also healthier for its occupants (consistently fresh air regarding CO2 levels, no accumulation of indoor pollutants that might be released inside the house).

Yes, the costs are the main concern. I want to implement a smart home system. Additionally, we are worried about possible mold growth in the supply ducts. That doesn’t really add up. No controlled residential ventilation for cost reasons, but a smart home system for $20k..30k..50k?
