Hello,

we are planning to buy new appliances for our new house. For the washing machine, we want a Miele.

I noticed that Miele offers a “pre-iron” function in some of their newer models. This heats the drum and spins at a certain speed to make laundry smoother.

The question is: what are the benefits? Do T-shirts, jeans, trousers, or sweaters still need to be hung up? Do they still require ironing? What about casual shirts (I assume formal shirts for church or office would still need ironing)? Is it more effective on so-called “wrinkle-free” shirts?

So far, I have only found a few reviews on Amazon about this feature. They say that light shirts (not stiff ones) and T-shirts don’t necessarily need ironing afterward. T-shirts can be worn straight away, and shirts only need to be hung up and will be smooth (though I suspect not perfect). One comment mentioned that ironing afterward is much easier.

Reviews tend to be brief and written shortly after purchase, so I’m asking here in the hope that someone has personal experience with this pre-iron function and can share their insights.

Thanks to a special dealer, we have three specific machines to choose from, with only one featuring the ironing function — but it costs about €200 more.

Thank you.
Best regards

We have a system with the twin dos and no longer need to buy detergent. The laundry really gets clean, and we rarely or never use the many advanced functions. However, it somehow comes with every possible feature on board.

Is that because of the probably expensive twin-dos?
But this doesn’t have anything to do with pre-ironing, or did I misunderstand?

For documentation, I took some photos of a few pieces of laundry.
Regular wash cycle, without pre-ironing, 60°C (140°F), maximum spin speed.
Dried on the line for two days.

Next time, if I remember, I’ll try the whole thing with pre-ironing as well.

Here is also a photo of laundry with pre-ironing.
There are clearly fewer wrinkles in the clothes, but they are not completely wrinkle-free because of it.

I’m not sure if the reduced wrinkles come from the "pre-ironing" or simply because the laundry comes out warm (without pre-ironing, the laundry comes out cold from the machine).

I have a similar machine, but from V-Zug, and have been very satisfied with it for years.

Ironing shirts starts with the shopping.

The best so-called non-iron shirts made from 100% cotton are from Seidensticker, Olymp, Eterna, and Kauf. I can load the machine with 7-8 shirts (a week’s supply); of course, the shirts must be hung on hangers immediately to dry as soon as the steam program is finished. After drying, I quickly smooth the shirts with a good steam iron (for example, a Tefal) before folding them – this takes just a moment. You could also wear them without running the iron over them again, as after about half an hour of wearing, there is probably no visible difference whether the shirts were ironed again or not.

With regular shirts, the difference in time required is, of course, even greater.

There are so many options out there. I guess I’m a bit unusual—I have a completely standard washing machine that just washes and does nothing else. I also happen to have high-quality clothing.
