The desire to build is there, a suitable plot of land is in sight, and the wishlist is long.
The house will be built using solid construction methods, the house design is flexible (gable roof, flat roof, 2.5 stories), the choice of materials is still open, and whether to include a basement or not is not crucial, but the desired rooms must be included.
An architect is needed!
Maybe someone has a recommendation in the Duisburg-Moers-Neukirchen-Vluyn area.
A young architect who is hands-on and later takes on site supervision and project management would be welcome. Since I plan to do a lot of the work myself (at least temporarily), the architect should always have good advice ready and be prepared to work proactively.
How should I approach the search? What do the experienced members recommend?
Thanks
Alex

The architect should be from the local area and have built at least 1-2 houses per year in recent years. This ensures that they are experienced in the field, familiar with the market, and have a reliable network of proven contractors.
Furthermore, they should be able to provide references of clients who have previously worked with them and can share their experiences.

You need to start a selection process in which you gradually narrow down the number of potential architects, for example by distance to the construction site, completed projects and references, preferred building materials, and so on. Eventually, only two or three remain, and then you can schedule appointments and find the architect you feel confident to work with on your house construction (a trial partnership).
Every architect has a certain style. This doesn’t mean they try to impose their own taste, but as a client, it doesn’t make sense to choose an architect who primarily designs contemporary or unconventional houses and ask them to plan a traditional Black Forest-style house.
Similarly, the choice of building materials is important in selecting an architect. If an architect specializes in calcium silicate brick with external wall insulation systems (EWIS), they are probably not the right fit for a timber frame construction.
Maybe you also need an initial consultation first in order to even start the selection process. Reading extensively in the forum about this, including contract options with architects (for example, a staged contract), can be helpful.
