raspidoGood evening,
I have already posted a message in the area of old building renovation, which actually builds on this one. We want to remove part of a wall in our house and shift another part.
Now the question is, how do I find a reliable structural engineer? I could just call through the Yellow Pages or similar, but that might not get me exactly what I’m looking for.
Here is a picture of the section in question:
The red wall sections are to be removed, and the purple wall is intended to be the new wall, at least roughly drawn. According to the floor plan, the red walls each have a thickness of 17.5 cm (7 inches). In the longer section, glass blocks (2x3) are integrated to let natural light from the WC into the bathroom.
Could anyone recommend a structural engineer or at least give some tips on how to find a good one? And is it possible to estimate the potential costs? Unfortunately, the construction plans and related documents are no longer available. Above this part of the building is only an attic space from an extension, so no living area or similar.
The main concern is the calculation and explanation of what I need to do. For the actual work, I can bring in a colleague (a bricklayer by trade). Just his boss can’t be relied on. Otherwise, I would have approached him.
Michael
