Hello everyone,

we are currently considering which type of patio door to choose.
We are undecided and have done some online research.
I would appreciate it if you could add any points or correct any mistakes.

Lift-and-slide door:
- used to be less airtight, now equally airtight
- better sound and thermal insulation
- little to no threshold
- only open/close function
- more expensive
- more stable/durable

Tilt-and-slide door:
- equally airtight
- better protection against forced entry due to mushroom-head locks
- threshold present
- tilt function available
- less expensive
- less stable/durable

Most likely, these points do not tell the whole story, so I would be interested to hear which option you chose and why.

Thanks and best regards

This has been discussed several times.
What exactly do you mean by expensive?

My PSK door is "louder" than a lift-and-slide door because I always have to press it firmly into the frame.

If I had to choose today, I would go for a lift-and-slide door...

Am I in the wrong place here? Do you have a link? The outcome of the discussion would be interesting. I can’t tell you exactly what more expensive means; I’ve only listed the results of my research. Part of the question is also whether that is even correct.

We paid an additional cost of nearly €1000 for upgrading from a standard 3-meter (10 feet) window door element to a lift-and-slide door. I would therefore be interested to know the extra cost for the parallel sliding and tilt door (PSK).

I consider the tilt function unnecessary, so I prefer the lift-and-slide door at the front. If costs are a factor, wouldn't a standard tilt-and-turn door be an option?
