Hello everyone,

We have commissioned our builder to install a geothermal heat pump with deep drilling.

The heating technician plans to install a Junkers STM-100 model.

This will be combined with a hot water storage tank and a buffer tank for the underfloor heating system.

Additionally, a Wolf CWL 300 or Wolf 400 ventilation system with heat recovery is planned.

Since we have no knowledge of this topic at all, it is very difficult for us to assess it.

In principle, we trust the builder and the heating technician, but our experience with our last build showed that asking some reasonably intelligent questions can lead to significant improvements in the equipment used.

Does anyone have any tips on what we should pay attention to?

Thank you very much

Usually, a basic assessment is conducted before any construction contract. This means determining the actual requirements for heating, hot water, and possibly ventilation based on the planned building structure, climate location, and user behavior. Depending on the results and conditions, the overall concept is developed.
The necessary calculation documents typically include: standard heating load, room heating loads, heating surfaces, and hydraulics. For mechanical ventilation systems with heat recovery, the required air volumes according to the air volume plan following standard 1946-6 must also be considered.

Usually not, as their contract terms generally do not require this. Once the contract is signed, only the contract components apply. In most cases, you have to live with what has been agreed upon from the start. From an economic point of view, this rarely makes sense.
It is common for many general contractors (GCs) or managing contractors to exclude these trades from their contracts and subcontract these services externally.

To return to the topic of the buffer tank.

How can it be avoided? Is it basically possible with the planned Junkers compact system as well?
Besides the lower efficiency, the space requirement for the buffer tank is also annoying me.

Compact units are often a cheap compromise offered by the supplier!
If heat generation and demand match, a buffer tank (for heating operation) should definitely be avoided when used together with a brine-to-water heat pump. Besides the space requirements and reduced efficiency, the unnecessary additional investment is more than avoidable!
