Hello,

I am considering buying a house built in 2010 with a special heating system. It is a so-called solar house. It is characterized by a centrally located, thermally insulated 8000-liter (2100-gallon) water storage tank. The tank is heated by solar thermal energy and provides enough hot water for much of the year to supply the house (e.g., underfloor heating).

However, some parts of the pipes don’t look very good anymore. I have attached a picture below.

I am not an expert, but could it be that the pipes are soft-soldered? Is that still standard practice?

It appears there has been a leak in the past. Is a leak of this size normal? Or could it be condensation? Would it be an option to replace just this pipe? Replacing all pipes seems very extensive to me.

What would you recommend?
Please provide constructive advice and feel free to clearly recommend avoiding this project if, in your opinion, it might be a bottomless pit.

Thank you, best regards
Janny
