ᐅ Is investing in a solar power system worth it? Any experiences?

Hello dear forum,

we are considering having a solar system installed on the roof, with costs of about 6000 euros. Now we are wondering if we will ever be able to recoup that investment. Does the system even last that long?

Hello,

the solar system should have a lightning conductor. In case of hail damage, if any occurs, it is usually covered by the building insurance. However, this should be clarified with the insurer.

Hello,

I am wondering how many hours of sunlight per day are needed to operate a solar system (for domestic hot water) economically.

I live in the Frankfurt am Main area, where we effectively receive, meaning that I can only utilize solar energy efficiently at a certain angle of incidence, about 1.4 hours per day on average over the year.

Calculation basis:
Data from DWD Offenbach

Annual sunshine hours are approximately 1520 hours, so effectively about 500 to 600 hours. Divided by 365 days, this amounts to roughly 1.3 to 1.6 hours per day.

Kind regards

Hello,

if you don’t have a roof surface, open area, or any other space that is ideally oriented for installing solar collectors, you won’t achieve the desired savings effect.

In our latitudes, you can generate a maximum of 60% of the heat needed for domestic hot water with a solar system. If your collectors are only delivering about a quarter of that, then you will only get around 15%. However, you shouldn’t base this solely on the number of sunshine hours, because there is also a portion of diffuse radiation that still contributes to the output.
