HilfeHilfe30 Nov 2015 08:28Hello,
we have white interior doors. I recently noticed that on one door about 0.5–1 cm (0.2–0.4 inches) of the paint has come off. I don’t see any signs of external damage because the spot is smooth and you can just see the brown underlying layer. If it were external damage, you would expect to see a "dent" or something similar.
Now, a somewhat awkward question: this is a new build and we moved in about a year ago. Should something like this be reported? After all, the doors were quite expensive. It’s probably just poorly painted in a few spots.
Is there a good repair kit for this?

*Before* you start with the "repair," take the proper approach first!
Take photos of the damaged door (you should now check all interior doors carefully) and send these along with an explanatory letter to your supplier, requesting a remedy. Ideally, set a deadline of 4 weeks; since there is no imminent hazard, a shorter deadline is not required. Most likely, they will send their door manufacturer to your place to rule out external damage (which will be difficult to prove one year after moving in).
You need to know that your supplier has the right to carry out a "repair." I don’t consider 0.5 - 1 cm (0.2 - 0.4 inches) a defect in the classic sense. The door manufacturer will then, if it is confirmed to be a material defect, repair the damaged area. Only if the repaired spot *should* flake off again—hopefully not—would they, in my opinion, be willing to provide you with a new door panel.
