We are about to install the interior window sills soon. The plan is to use oiled solid wood window sills.

I would like to secure the sills using polyurethane foam. The questions I have are:
  • Should I use a one-component (1K) or two-component (2K) foam?
  • Is there any issue with using foam on oiled wood? How well does the foam adhere to the oiled surface?
  • Also, is it necessary to oil the underside of the sills to make them more durable, or can I skip this step?

Well, if moisture can rise from the masonry, there is an underlying issue; that should not happen.

You can use an oil-wax combination, whichever you prefer. Just pay attention to the application instructions of the respective manufacturer, and you won’t go wrong. However, keep in mind that oil also "enhances" the wood, meaning it will darken. You can anticipate this effect beforehand by wetting the board; this color change will remain permanent after oiling.

Thank you, I will start working on that next week.

Sure, I will include that here. By the way, the parquet installer also gave me the tip to oil the boards only after installation. He also mentioned that applying oil on one side only is not a problem.

The tip is meant to reduce the need for careful handling regarding dirt during installation. I usually apply oil beforehand, after the boards have already been precisely fitted. This makes assembly easier and faster.

One more question. If I oil the window sills in advance, could that potentially cause adhesion problems with the acrylic? I was planning to apply acrylic sealant all around the sills.
