Hello everyone,
I am currently facing a common issue during the installation of my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinet fronts: the doors are not closing properly. Some of them stick or are slightly misaligned.
I am especially interested in how to optimize the installation and fine adjustment of the doors so that all of them close precisely and evenly, without gaps or sagging.
Does anyone have tips on how to proceed to avoid errors from the start? Are there any proven tricks for adjusting the hinges or preparing the fronts and cabinet boxes?
Perhaps advice on the right tools or the order of assembly?
I would like to avoid having to readjust or fuss with each door multiple times afterward.
Thanks for your experiences and advice!

A very slight rocking motion during adjustment helps the hinge to “settle in.”That's correct, it makes it easier for the screws to slide in and provides better grip.

Taking a short break, having a coffee, and then coming back with a fresh perspective – that worked wonders for me.Very true – I also recommend taking a break after every 3-4 doors. Otherwise, you quickly get used to the deviations and overlook small mistakes.
And one more point:
- At the end, use a small clearance gauge or gap measurement tool (which can also be homemade from some cardboard) to adjust the gaps and make the appearance more uniform.
That’s the only way to achieve a truly professional result.
Finally: If the door size differs or if a door leaf is slightly warped, small adjustments can be made using spacer washers or thin shims behind the hinge plates. However, this requires some experience.
If the cabinet/frame is the issue, even the best door adjustments won’t help much. In that case, it’s better to pay close attention to correct assembly and alignment.
Best regards!
