Hello everyone,
I need some expert advice from someone familiar with the installation of PVC waste pipes.
Just before the waste pipe exits the house through the wall, it makes several bends forming an S-shape. This was created simply by connecting multiple PVC pipes together. For some time now, we have noticed that a brown, almost odorless liquid occasionally accumulates below this S-shaped section.
Since I am not very knowledgeable about this topic, I assumed there might be a leak at one of the joints, causing some liquid to escape intermittently. I contacted the company that installed these pipes. Based on a photo I sent, they conducted a remote assessment and claimed that the brown liquid is sealing compound that has liquefied over the months and is now leaking out.
I observed this for a while and recently found a larger amount of this liquid again. Since I could hardly believe it was liquefied sealing compound, I contacted the company once more.
They then came onsite to take a look.
Their conclusion: they firmly maintain it is the mentioned sealing compound that has liquefied and that it will decrease over time. When I asked further questions, I only received vague answers like, “This is not unusual; I have seen this twice before,” and so on.
Personally, I don’t believe this explanation. I am more inclined to think it might simply be condensation. There is a washing machine and dryer in the adjoining room, so the humidity likely isn't always very low.
Has anyone with professional experience encountered something like this? Can I trust the company’s explanation, or are they just trying to downplay the issue?
