ᐅ How can I set up Wi-Fi and telephone services, as well as technical installations, in the basement?

Hello everyone,

Since I am a complete beginner in the IT field, I’m asking for your help.

We are currently building a semi-detached house. Because of the underfloor heating, I have planned a CAT7 connection on every floor.

Now I’m wondering how I can later provide Wi-Fi and telephony throughout the house.

The incoming service line is located in the basement.

How can I distribute the telephony and Wi-Fi in the house using a FritzBox? I was thinking of installing an access point at the CAT7 outlets on every floor where needed. But how do I get the LAN connection there? Is it enough to connect the FritzBox in the basement to the network ports that end at the CAT7 outlets and then set up access points?

Also, I need to know how to connect a telephone (which will be located on the ground floor) to the FritzBox that is in the basement. Maybe Wi-Fi telephony?

Sorry for my awkwardness and many thanks for your help!

You see it that way, and so do I, but typical homebuilders probably budget a different amount and might not notice much of a difference.

Exactly right, and that's fine. Everyone gets what they need (or think they need xD).

Oh man... I’m also experienced in IT, but I really never got the hang of networking. Even when I talk to network specialists for my projects, I rarely come away any wiser.

Can I now use the UniFi solutions effectively with Magenta TV? Keyword: multicast?!

Yes, so I have a total of 2 VLANs. If I want more, I need an additional firewall or something similar.

Mikrotik can do that without any problems, for example.
Hmm, too bad no one mentioned that to me when I asked in dozens of forums about suitable devices...

You should have asked me. Mikrotik devices are really powerful despite their affordable price. For example, the manufacturer usually specifies the performance for certain scenarios (bridging, routing, VPN, etc.), allowing you to choose the device according to the task. However, I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone who just wants something that simply works. A simple example: the default configuration includes a DHCP server but no automatic DNS registration. As a result, there is no name resolution in the local network out of the box, which can sometimes cause confusion. On the other hand, a corresponding mechanism can be added via scripting, which is much more flexible than any consumer router like the Fritz!Box models.
