Hello everyone,
I have some particleboard shelves from Billy units that I want to clean thoroughly without damaging the surface or edges. My main concern is how to best remove dust, light stains, and possibly sticky spots without causing the surface to become dull or swollen. Which cleaning products are particularly suitable for painted or melamine-coated shelves, and how should I use them most effectively (e.g., moisture level of cloths, cleaning frequency)? I would really appreciate specific tips and experiences with different products or methods that protect the material while ensuring a thorough cleaning. Thanks in advance!

In response to LISDRA6's question regarding vinegar and water:
Leave the damp cloth on the affected area for no more than 10 to 15 seconds, then immediately wipe it off with a clean, damp cloth and dry the surface thoroughly. Vinegar fumes or moisture should not remain on coatings for longer periods, as this can cause microscopic damage.
If the surface appears dull after this treatment, gentle polishing with a dry microfiber cloth usually helps.

One last question from me: If I want to treat very stubborn sticky spots with a vinegar-water solution, how long should the cloth stay on the spot at most? That’s exactly what I wanted to say, thanks Sergio49.
If anyone feels uneasy using vinegar essence, you can also try a little dish soap diluted in water, which is often safer, especially for delicate furniture. Vinegar is effective against limescale and dirt but is also more aggressive.
Proceed very carefully and always wipe dry quickly—this is definitely the best approach.
