Hello everyone, I’m considering adapting my IKEA Platsa furniture for my children’s homeschooling and I’m looking for practical tips on the best way to approach this.

Specifically, I want to use the furniture so that the workstations are both functional and space-saving. Additionally, I want to create storage for school supplies to keep everything organized and minimize distractions while the children are studying.

Since Platsa consists of modular cabinets and units, I’m wondering how to best combine or expand them to, for example, create a stable tabletop or integrate flexible partition elements. Ideas on how to include lighting or cable management are also very welcome.

How have you adapted your Platsa furniture for homeschooling, or what would you recommend to turn the individual modules into an ideal learning space?

According to IKEA’s recommendation, special attention should be given to correct assembly using the included fittings. Additionally, an anchoring system (e.g., wall anchors) is advisable to eliminate tipping hazards.

For home-schooling furniture, flexibility is essential. Therefore, besides the assembly of the furniture, the selection of complementary elements is also important: for example, foldable tabletops or extensions that can create additional space without occupying permanent room.

I would like to add: When the tabletop rests directly on the modules, make sure the surfaces are smooth. Rough edges or uneven areas increase the risk of the tabletop wobbling.

In addition, I have found it helpful to attach small silicone strips to the bottom edge of the tabletop. These provide enough grip without leaving any marks.

A real DIY project using Platsa furniture is really fun! I also like the option to attach learning aids, notes, or schedules to the back of the modules with pegboards or small magnetic boards – that way, everything stays in view.

You can create a truly personalized learning environment that brings a lot of motivation!
