Hello everyone, I have a Malm bed frame from Ikea that unfortunately keeps wobbling. My question is: How can I effectively and permanently prevent the Malm bed frame from wobbling? I’m looking for a solution that is easy to implement and does not damage the furniture or affect its appearance. Are there special screws, additional support slats, or other tricks that can reliably stop the wobbling? Thanks in advance for your tips!
The Malm bed frame often wobbles because the joints either do not fit properly or the wood slightly gives over time due to constant movement. A step-by-step method:
1. Completely loosen the screws and check all connections.
2. Ideally, tighten all screws and fittings properly with the appropriate tool – sometimes this alone is enough.
3. If the screws are stripped or dull, get replacements or apply some wood glue to add stability.
4. Attach non-slip pads, such as rubber or felt gliders, under each bed leg. This prevents movement on the floor.
5. Optionally, you can also install small wooden strips with brackets on the side panel for extra stabilization if the bed has play on one side.
How old is your bed frame? Sometimes the wood-based material loosens over time.

Thanks in advance for your feedback! @kulau Your approach sounds very thorough. My Malm is about 3 years old, and the wobbling usually happens when moving around in bed. Could it be that the slatted frame might also be a factor? I’ve heard that some slatted frames don’t fit very tightly and can cause some play in the bed frame. Does anyone have experience with the slatted frame in connection with the Malm bed and the wobbling issue?

Could it be that the slatted frame might also play a role?Yes, absolutely. The slatted frame is a crucial factor. If it doesn’t fit exactly into the support rails or if the resting points have some play, every movement transfers to the bed frame and increases the wobbling.
Here are some tips:
- Check if the slatted frame sits securely and without any play in its supports.
- Inspect whether the side rails of the bed frame are straight and haven’t shortened due to drying or shrinking.
- If the slatted frame is too loose, you can place small felt strips or foam between the frame and the slatted frame to reduce the play.
- Some Malm models also offer accessory clips that can be used to fix the slatted frame in place.
Therefore, to avoid wobbling, you should consider not only the frame but also the slatted frame.
