Hello everyone,
I've been reading a lot about robot vacuum cleaners with mopping functions. Of course, it would be great to come home and have everything clean.
Who has one of these devices, and which models are good or where is it not worth the money? It’s probably tricky to decide because of advertising and such. But maybe it’s a topic of general interest. My partner has a child who is allergic to house dust. It’s a huge time commitment! Can a device like this actually help?

We have also been using a Xiaomi vacuum for several years now and are very satisfied. Back then, it was quite complicated to get the app running in English, but maybe that has improved by now.
It doesn’t replace a proper vacuum cleaner, but we often use it in between or additionally after regular vacuuming. You’d be surprised at how much dust and dirt it still picks up.
We don’t let it vacuum unattended (for example, daily at fixed times), since it once tried to vacuum up our cat’s vomit... I noticed it just in time, but cleaning it was unpleasant...

We have an older Neato model that has been in daily use for almost 6 years. We are now upgrading to a new Neato (without a mopping function) because the newer models can be assigned "No-Go Areas" through the app. This way, we won’t have to keep moving our toddler’s play tipi.
In our household, there is an energetic three-year-old and we have cantilever chairs. Neither is a problem. The little one knows how to tidy up, and the robot handles the chairs just fine.

Hello,
It also depends on your budget. Do you want one with laser navigation, or is the older technology sufficient? Is mopping important to you, and so on.
There are various vacuum robot reviews on YouTube. Currently, the Roborock S5 Max often comes out as a winner. Feel free to look at these critically.
Consumer product testing organizations have also conducted tests.
We have a vacuum/mop robot from Viomi for the ground floor. Since we have tile flooring everywhere, a useful mopping function was important to us. It does deliver on this. Of course, it’s only a supplementary feature, but I was positively surprised by the results.
Our two children (3 years old) and cats get along well with "Mopi," as long as it’s not moving. Once it starts running, they find it suspicious and keep a bit of a safety distance.
Whenever the kids drop something, the rule is: Mopi has to start again.
Good luck!

My wife wanted a robot vacuum for the ground floor, as it is an open 61m² (650 ft²). She says that has been the one essential purchase for her so far. It runs daily and maintains a basic level of tidiness. Upstairs, it doesn’t make sense because the kids always leave things on the floor.

Is such a robot vacuum suitable when small children are playing in the room? Since we don’t have children yet, I can’t really say. So far, the cats haven’t been affected. I usually run it only when we’re not home anyway, because it does make some noise. But I can’t imagine anything happening. On one hand, it detects when it bumps into something. On the other hand, there are no dangerous parts underneath, unlike with a robotic lawn mower.
We have had the Vorwerk for 7 years. We think it’s great. However, it’s clear to me that it does not replace a traditional vacuum cleaner.
A lot also depends on the circumstances. The less clutter there is, the better.
There are pros and cons when you use it with children.
Running it in the same room at the same time doesn’t work at all. Because of toys on the floor and depending on their age, the robot is constantly being switched on or off, chased around, or even ridden on.
You have to check the floor for small pieces of toys before running it; otherwise, they either get lost or, depending on their size, they block the robot.
A big advantage for us is that you can run it briefly every evening with little extra effort while you’re in the bathroom with the kids or something. That quickly cleans up the dinner-crumb mess on the floor.
And if you have little Tasmanian devils at home, they naturally stir up even more dust. Under the stairs, you can already find the first dust bunnies within a day.
Conclusion: Especially with children, it’s indispensable, but it does not replace the standard vacuum cleaner.
