AltUndNeu25 Jun 2018 11:28Hello,
First of all, let me introduce myself. We are a family of four from NRW and want to buy a house built in 1950 and extend it. Everything is basically settled, and we are not completely inexperienced when it comes to building. However, our banker mentioned that if we make changes to the facade, we might have to insulate the entire old building. Our architect, on the other hand, does not seem to know anything about this.
What do you think, is that correct?
Thank you very much in advance!

A house from 1950 does not say much on its own. The heating system could be significantly newer, and improvements such as insulated radiator niches and double or triple glazing may already have been made. If the house is technically "consistently" that old, I would consider it as a shell and would not expect to be able to keep the existing structure as it is.

AltUndNeu25 Jun 2018 17:37That’s a good point. Fortunately, the condition is not consistent with the year the house was built. The house has been modernized several times; the bathrooms, heating system, electrical wiring, roof, and plumbing have all been updated. Only the exterior walls have not been insulated.
And thanks for the note about paragraph 9!
