Hello, we are planning to buy a house where the heating system is located in the attic. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this?

The heating system is a gas boiler from around 1998. We want to renovate the house, and this includes installing a new heating system. We aim to become as independent as possible from electricity and gas in the future. What would you recommend, and what approximate costs should we expect?

P.S. The house has an area of approximately 125 m² (1,345 ft²)

Maybe "oil and gas"?
Being independent from electricity is a real challenge. Since the heating system is located in the attic, using wood will probably be very complicated. The pellets would all have to be pumped up to a storage area.
That leaves only solar-powered water storage (solar energy) or heat pumps (which still require electricity,...). A heat pump can also be installed in the attic. However, this will not harmonize with the existing radiators, since heat pumps usually operate at a much lower heating temperature. Gas heating tends to require higher temperatures. As a result, the heating surface area of the existing system is probably far too small (radiators or underfloor heating).
As you can see: Without a professional or specialist planner, it won’t work. Simply replacing the heating system won’t be sufficient.
