Hi!

In today’s world of fast food and ready meals, the question arises: what about our nutrition? It is noticeable that fewer and fewer people really know how to cook. Many actually live day by day on frozen pizza and canned food. And this cannot be healthy in the long run!

When you consider how much dead food people consume, it becomes clear why lifestyle diseases are becoming more widespread. You are what you eat! And since poor nutrition only shows its effects after many years, I believe the consequences will only become truly apparent in the coming years.

Anyone who has enjoyed fresh vegetables straight from the garden will know the difference! Most of the fruit and vegetables available in supermarkets are no longer worth much. Lettuce that is already wilted, tomatoes that taste like water, and apricots that aren’t even ripe — and you still have to pay for it!

What are your thoughts?

Hi DIY enthusiasts,

yes, that’s definitely true. Time is often the reason why people don’t feel like spending a long time in the kitchen after a hard day. However, there are plenty of dishes that don’t require much time. It’s not about always eating high-quality meals, but every now and then preparing a good home-cooked meal—anyone can make time for that. Plus, it helps you recharge your energy for the demanding work ahead.

Junk food basically lacks vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients. But these are exactly what the human body needs to function properly. If a person experiences a prolonged deficiency of important nutrients, they become weak and more susceptible to all kinds of illnesses.

The effects are gradual. You may only notice the consequences after many years.

Hi,

I also work eight hours a day, and yet I am able to cook my own meals. Often, it’s just a matter of setting priorities. When I think about how much better a home-cooked meal is compared to canned food, I have to say: this time investment is definitely worth it 100%!

Farmers’ Markets

Hi!

Yung is right: it doesn’t take that much time to cook something yourself. Certainly more than just throwing a frozen pizza in the oven, always! But in the end, it’s worth it in every way.

I’d like to share a tip: if you care about the quality of your fruits and vegetables, you shouldn’t buy them at the supermarket. I can only recommend finding out when and where farmers’ markets take place in your hometown. There, you’ll usually find fresh, locally grown produce. And often at reasonable prices. Additionally, this fruit and vegetables tend to stay fresh much longer, which ultimately can save you money because you don’t have to throw anything away after just 1–2 days due to mold or wilting leaves (e.g., lettuce).

Hello,

Although I rarely buy vegetables at the supermarket, I have to say it’s true that, for example, lettuce doesn’t stay fresh very long. Usually, it’s already quite limp when you buy it... so you have to remove all the outer leaves right away and throw them away... 🙄

Hi,

Of course, the best option is to have your own garden where you can grow a variety of produce and always aim to cover most of your fruit and vegetable needs. You really don’t need much space to supply a family of four.

If you don’t have a garden, as Gartenbau already mentioned, it’s worth exploring different farmers’ markets. It pays off! Soon you will find farmers you trust, and then you will know who grew the products and how they were cultivated.

It is really important to always buy or eat seasonal vegetables and fruits. This matters a lot! For example, if you look at strawberries sold in April or even in winter, they may look appealing, but their flavor is completely lacking. :o

Homegrown tastes best!

Hi,

I have my own garden, and I can honestly say that nothing tastes better than what you have grown, cared for, and harvested yourself!
