Hello,

I am currently requesting quotes for glass sliding doors. Due to the small distance between the door and the wall (the door runs along the wall) and because the offer includes the door and the track housing as an inseparable unit, there is only one recessed handle on both sides. The door separates the hallway from the living/dining/kitchen area and will probably remain open most of the time.

Has anyone had experience with adhesive handle bars for glass doors?

First decide on the more practical opening width, then choose the type of handle. We preferred a bar handle and made the passage a bit wider for it.

How wide is your passage? Ours is 98 cm clear width (39 inches).
The offer with the bar handle is almost twice as expensive since it’s not part of the special deal.

Thanks for the pictures! It looks good. I think we will choose the recessed handle since the door will mostly stay open. When I see the two screws, I could imagine attaching a handle later on. You would just need to design an appealing look and have it welded.

I’m on a business trip and can’t measure exactly. The frame was installed within a wall opening, leaving about 110 cm (43 inches). The glass sliding door hangs on a track and moves in front of the frame. The stainless steel pull handle reduces the clear passage width by about 20 cm (8 inches), as it stops just before the edge of the frame. Overall, it’s a very simple, attractive, and for us, very satisfactory solution. A significantly narrower passage would not be a problem but wouldn’t achieve the proportions we wanted.

That will then cost three times as much.

No, I’ll take a photo this weekend. Our door frame was lovingly crafted from individual strips by a master carpenter with many years of experience and took only a few hours to make. The material cost is negligible. Considering the price of ready-made systems, I think we got a very good deal. It brings joy every day, it’s a unique piece and feels like a gift. You can buy a product, but the care and attention a person who truly loves their work puts into the product and the client cannot be bought with money.

Hello @hampshire My comment referred to the original poster’s statement: “Offer with grab bar is almost twice as expensive since it’s not available as a special deal.”

In that case, a custom-made product is probably not desired since it would be even more expensive.

I installed it without a frame.

We have a clear opening width of 86 cm (34 inches) and a combination of a bar handle and recessed pull on the glass sliding door. This is continuously screwed in place and not glued.

This allows the door to open fully across the entire width and it can be operated from the living room side using the bar handle and from the hallway side using the recessed pull.
