Hello,

I am at a loss for words right now.
My parents received a gas bill adjustment of €3,300.
I checked and since January, they are said to have consumed 1,500 m³ (53,000 cubic feet) of gas, which is about 13,500 kWh (46,000 BTU).
They didn’t use that much earlier in the year. The new monthly payments are supposed to increase from €100 to €600.

Nothing has changed in the settings.
The heating system (both the heating and the house date back to 1999) has occasionally failed over the past few years (pipes have been flushed several times, the "igniter" was replaced).

Is it possible that the meter is faulty? It runs extremely fast when the heating is on.
What is the best and quickest way to have the meter checked?

Or can a faulty heating system consume significantly more gas?

Thanks in advance!

First, check the billing statements from previous years to see if there were any reading errors.

Then verify whether you have been moved to a basic tariff due to gas.de going bankrupt.

How old is the meter and when was it last calibrated?

Hello,

I agree with the previous speaker! Otherwise, for the future, read and record the meter every 1–2 months. This way, you will have approximate values and can detect something like this early.
