Hello everyone!

I’m interested in learning about your energy costs for your homes.

Specifically, I’d like to know:

1: Year of construction
2: Energy standard
3: Electricity costs
4: Gas costs (or alternatively your other heating source, e.g., electricity for an air-to-water heat pump, etc.)
5: Number of occupants in the house

I’m asking because I was talking yesterday with my brother-in-law about their newly built home (built in 2015, KfW 70 standard). They say that the two of them pay a monthly gas prepayment of €100 for 160m² (1722 sq ft), without much of a refund at the end of the year...

That depends on so many factors that it’s impossible to give a definite answer.
It will likely be between 400 and 1000€ (around 430 to 1080 USD).
100€ (about 108 USD) is already quite low, especially since they probably have a solar thermal system on the roof. What is not known, though, is the location of the house: maybe it’s situated on a mountain pasture, in the shade, with the windows tilted open half the day, but maintaining a comfortable 25°C (77°F) indoors – in that case, the 100€ (108 USD) advance payment would be quite reasonable. On top of that, there are also maintenance costs, chimney sweeps, and so on.

Actually, the house is located in the Osnabrück district and has a central ventilation system with heat recovery, among other features.

The thermostats are set to 20/21 degrees Celsius (68/70°F).

That’s why I find the high energy consumption surprising... but without details about the house, it’s probably impossible to say anything definitive.

However, I would appreciate it if some of you could share your utility costs (electricity and heating—gas or electricity for an air-to-water heat pump) along with basic details about your house.

Yes, that really sounds unusually high.
Air-to-water heat pump KFW55 165m² (1776 sq ft), controlled residential ventilation with heat recovery, €700 last year for heating/domestic hot water.

Around 1200 per year. Electricity and gas. Slightly more electricity than gas. Both supplied by EON under a combined tariff.

160 sqm (1720 sq ft) KFW55 house with air-to-water heat pump / controlled ventilation system and now 2.5 occupants
Move-in 2017
Indoor temperatures: 50% of the area (living space, bathroom) maintained at 23-24°C (73-75°F), the rest at 21-22°C (70-72°F)

Heat pump electricity consumption is about 3000 kWh, with a downward trend
Household electricity consumption is around 3500-4000 kWh
The cost in currency can be calculated individually depending on preferences (one or two meters, green electricity yes/no).
