Hello everyone!

I am planning the kitchen in our new bungalow with a kitchen island.

According to the building specifications, the ceiling will be made of drywall. Does anyone have experience with installing range hoods on drywall ceilings? I’m concerned that the hood might eventually fall into the cooking pot or cause something worse.

The weight of the recirculating range hoods I am considering is between 25 and 30 kg (55 to 66 lbs).

To reinforce and evenly distribute the load, I would screw an OSB board behind it or have the drywaller do it. I did this for our lamps (10 to 15 kg (22 to 33 lbs)) and in the shower sidewall, which holds a radiator estimated at 40 kg (88 lbs).
They just need to be flush with the drywall.

I assume your drywaller is familiar with this and it won’t be much additional work for them.
