Hello everyone,

Some background: Unfortunately, we had a major disappointment with our vinyl flooring from a well-known brand (mineral-based, advertised as free of harmful substances and PVC). After only 7 months, many of the tongues/edges have broken in several places, and we are seeing a lot of surface chipping :-( The floor definitely won’t last more than a year, which is really frustrating. Especially since we installed it ourselves, and even if we manage to get a refund for the flooring (which I highly doubt—they are already trying to avoid responsibility...), it will probably only cover the material cost and not the many hours we spent installing it (we also had an extremely high waste rate because edges and tongues often broke during installation).

We are now considering having tiles installed and are looking for gray wood-look tiles for the kitchen, living room, and hallway. We will probably leave the other rooms as they are for now.

Do you have any positive or negative experiences with specific products or manufacturers?

Are Villeroy & Boch tiles generally recommended? I assume many people have used them?

Thanks!!!

If the tiles are plank format, they should be rectified and calibrated. We have many from Italgraniti and are completely satisfied. I also think it is essential to see them in person. I had to buy the wood-effect tiles twice because my better half had a different idea. Suppliers who do not provide samples are the wrong choice.

That made me smile. We requested a sample last year and received a 1.20m x 0.30m (4 ft x 1 ft) tile in the mail within a week… a full tile. This really helped us visualize it, how it would look next to furniture and what would remain, etc. …
