Does anyone here know about the Futura floor slab or the Schwedenplatte (from Floortech, I believe)? These systems combine the floor slab, perimeter insulation, and underfloor heating, as well as all fresh water and wastewater pipes; the concrete surface is ready for covering... so no screed is needed. Sounds good... and the promotional videos look great too.

The Futura is also available as a kit. Has anyone here ever assembled it as a kit?

For our house, we planned underfloor heating and (like almost everyone) a construction period as short as possible. Since, apart from electricity, water, heating, and the roof, everything else is done by ourselves, a kit slab fits perfectly.

Does anyone here have information (no promotional texts) about these systems? And perhaps some reference figures (from the offer: 100% turnkey vs. kit) to better calculate cost-effectiveness (ratio, etc.)?

Since May 2012, we have had a Futura energy-saving slab-on-grade on the ground floor and a standard underfloor heating system under a 7 cm (3 inch) screed on the upper floor of our new build. We have lived in the house since October 2012 and have observed the following:

When all room thermostats are set to the same temperature and the heating system is set to maintain a room temperature of 23°C (73°F), the rooms on the ground floor with the Futura slab warm up very slowly and do not deliver the required heating output. It is possible to increase the temperature setting on the heating system (for example, from 23°C to 25°C (77°F)), but this leads to higher energy costs because the flow temperature must be increased.

I assume this is due to heat loss caused by approximately 20 cm (8 inches) more concrete between the heating pipes and the floor surface, which also needs to be heated.

Another disadvantage:
The Futura energy-saving slab heats up very slowly. It is not possible to quickly raise the temperature in the bathroom, for example. On the upper floor, a temperature increase can be felt within 30 minutes, but on the ground floor (Futura slab), it takes about 6 hours for the warmth to be noticeable at the floor surface.

This disadvantage is also negative for children’s rooms, as it is not possible to quickly lower the temperature by 1–2°C (2–4°F) in the evening before sleeping.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the Futura slab.
