I’m planning to give notice for my current apartment soon, order furniture, design the kitchen, and so on.
That’s why I’m wondering how long the renovation might still take.
At the moment, everything that needed to be removed is already gone, and now it’s just about rebuilding everything.
This includes, in part, installing screed, electrical wiring, laying floors, tiling the bathroom, plastering, painting, and other usual tasks.
The apartment is currently gutted.
I’m doing most of the work myself or with friends, with very little involvement from professional contractors.
The apartment is 90m² (970 sq ft), with 2.5 rooms plus a bathroom and hallway.
It should be possible to finish this in 3 months, right? What do you think?

Current conclusion: Never again I completely agree with that.
That has also been my sentiment so far.

That should be done in 3 months, right? What do you think? We took 4 months to renovate 2 houses—one of them stripped down to the exterior walls—similar to demolishing a larger greenhouse… working with specialist contractors. Starting with the demolition company, followed by the roofer, plumber, heating technician, electrician, screeder, plasterer, and finishing with the woodworker sanding and oiling the parquet flooring.
If you managed it as a one-man operation in just 1 year, that’s very fast.

garfunkel10 Oct 2016 19:41More of a two-person job and occasionally four people. But oddly, the friends quickly find something else to do.
But whatever, I can understand that. Today I leveled the floor, on Thursday the floorboards are arriving, and next week I’ll be laying them. Then a quick oiling, and before that, tiling the bathroom. I still need to paint the hallway and varnish the door frames. Otherwise, I’m more or less done.
It’s going to be a hectic few weeks :/

garfunkel23 Oct 2016 19:39Project start: May 2015
Project end: Mid-November 2016
Project duration so far: 17 months
May 2015: Initial discussions with carpenter regarding roof conversion (dormers)
July 2015: Discussions about options, dormer size and type depending on local building permits / planning permissions
September 2015: Final decision on dormer type and size, conversion of the visible roof structure, insulation upgrade, etc.
October 2015: Application for permits
January 2016: Permit approval received
February 2016: Removal of interior cladding in roof/attic
March 2016: Measurements taken by carpenter
April 2016: Major demolition work in the apartment -> gutting; discussions with bathroom installer and heating engineer about bathroom redesign, rerouting heating pipes, etc.
May 2016: Final discussions with carpenter, bathroom installer, “contract-ready planning”; further gutting and demolition work in the apartment
June 2016: Last demolition and gutting work in the apartment, painting visible roof sheathing outside the house
July 2016: Roof insulated and completed, new windows installed. Exterior finished, scaffolding removed. Interior work ongoing, insulation and sealing took about 2 weeks, water and sanitary systems reinstalled (rough-in), next week slotting and wiring installation scheduled.
August: Various interior works such as drywall installation, electrical work, wall paneling
September: More interior work, drywall (a lot of leveling work due to existing conditions), priming and plastering
October: Half of the rooms fully painted, flooring still to be installed, bathtub yet to be installed in bathroom, waterproofing and tiling still to be done
Mid to late October: All floors installed and oiled, small part of bathroom walls still need tiling and floor tiling remains unfinished. Toilet and sink scheduled for next week.
Kitchen installation on Tuesday
Moving scheduled for next weekend.
Not everything will be completely finished, for example, the glass shower walls will only be installed in mid-November. Also, a few minor tasks remain, such as painting the door frames for the fourth time and installing some lights.
I wanted to avoid managing the entire move within two days, but it looks like it will come down to that. Fortunately, I’m throwing away about three-quarters of my stuff anyway, so the decluttering won’t take too long.
