Hello,

I have the following problem: I smoothed my walls again using drywall panels, which mostly went very well. However, in one room something went wrong, and I’m unsure about my options.

The issue is that the panel adheres perfectly in the upper area, but in the lower section there are some spots that feel hollow and do not stick properly. If I were to tile over a completely flexible surface like that, I believe the tiles would likely crack or come loose. One idea I had was to seal the front surface and then pour a material behind it, similar to a self-leveling compound, reinforced with plaster gauze, and let it cure. Is there anything suitable for this purpose? I would prefer not to remove the entire panel again, as it would probably break.

Is there a suitable filler or would expanding foam be a better option? If using foam, would it need to be supported to prevent bulging from excessive expansion?

Additionally, there is a fairly uneven base below the window. What would be the best way to level or smooth that area? Any advice would be appreciated.

Did you attach the drywall sheets directly to your wall using plaster?

Normally, a framework made of wood or metal is installed first.

Yes, I have, and not just once. That’s what setting plaster is for. The goal is simply to create a smooth, even surface.

I saw this at my employer’s place, where a drywall installer did it the same way. I briefly discussed it with him back then, but unfortunately, he no longer works with us (he was employed by a subcontractor). Otherwise, he would have been the first person I’d ask.

We also stick them directly to the wall. There are only two reasons why they might not adhere: 1. Not enough adhesive 2. The surface was not load-bearing. I would try using frame foam. It doesn’t expand as much.
